What is the Colorado Health Care Cooperative?
The Colorado Health Care Cooperative is a proposed health care/insurance system that does not currently exist. If approved by the legislature and voters, the Colorado Health Care Cooperative would be a new resident owned/controlled, publicly funded, privately delivered health care/insurance system in Colorado that would:
- Provide health care/insurance to all Coloradans
- Ensure access to quality, affordable health care
- Focus on wellness and health of all Coloradans
- Rein in unsustainable, rising health care/insurance costs
- Provide real choice of health providers and insurance coverage
- Improve quality and value of health services
- Help create economic stability and health care security in Colorado
Why create the Colorado Health Care Cooperative?
Our current health care system is disorganized, expensive, and not meeting the needs of Coloradans. Even with the 2010 Federal health care reform, it is estimated the 258,000 Coloradans will be uninsured by the year 2019. High deductibles and co-payments will leave one out of five people unable to access medical care, and the costs of medical care continue to escalate. The Colorado Health Care Cooperative addresses problems and shortcomings in the current system and is timed to coincide with the full implementation of the 2010 Federal health care reform, offering Coloradans a proactive opportunity to responsibly resolve the pressing issues of making quality health care accessible and affordable for all.
